Safety
It is CSI’s company policy to perform all work safely and in accordance with all governing laws and regulations. The safety of our employees, subcontractors and all others involved is paramount. We continually strive to have the safest conditions possible in the workplace and work diligently to rectify any unsafe conditions immediately. CSI takes safety very seriously and is unwavering in our ongoing quest to make sure each worker goes home safely…every day.

CSI has devoted considerable resources to ensuring safety is always a top priority. We have an internal safety team to support each of our offices. Each CSI employee is required to complete several safety trainings prior to working in the field. CSI’s Director of Safety & Risk also hosts new hire safety orientations and routine company-wide safety trainings that all personnel must attend. Additionally, CSI utilizes safety consultants for additional support when needed, schedules routine insurance safety audits with our provider, and participates in OSHA’s Consultation Program on occasion. We welcome those external resources to help us be better.

CSI requires the same level of commitment to safety from our subcontractors. Safety programs, training records, insurance, other documentation, etc. are monitored closely by CSI to ensure our subcontractors are in compliance. Each worker completes CSI’s safety orientation program prior to working onsite and the CSI project team conducts weekly, all-hands safety meetings which are communicated in English and Spanish. Each subcontractor is required to perform routine safety inspections of their work onsite and are held accountable for non-compliance.

We are proud of our commitment to safety and work hard every day to maintain and improve that culture. If it cannot be done safely, then it cannot be done here at CSI!

Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
CSI believes quality is equal in importance only to that of safety. When a project is completed, the most important item left behind is the quality of the building. The quality of the project CSI builds is our last impression for our Owners, Architects, and other Clients. Quality does not cost; it pays! Implementing CSI’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Program greatly increases our customer satisfaction while decreasing the possibility of future call backs or warranty issues.

Quality means different things to different people. Typically, the three main priorities of a client are cost, time, and quality; these differ for each client. CSI is obligated to perform the work in accordance with predetermined requirements and procedures. CSI needs to be involved during the preconstruction phase to factor in these requirements and procedures. Quality Assurance is the plan to be successful, and Quality Control monitors the results of the plan. Part of CSI’s QA/QC Program includes an inspection checklist form for specific scopes of work. When implemented correctly, these checklists can confirm compliance and quality with CSI’s, Owner’s and Architect’s expectations, regulations, manufacturer’s instructions/requirements, and workmanship standards. All QA/QC Programs are only as good as the implementation and use of the Programs. The QA/QC is about developing a plan, communicating the plan, establishing a culture throughout the project and continuous follow-up documentation.

CSI’s QA/QC Program is directed toward CSI’s efforts in the building process. It is important to note Quality is everyone’s responsibility throughout the project. The Owner, Architect, Engineer, subcontractors, and CSI must be involved for a successful QA/QC program. If one is absent, the quality will likely suffer. Every CSI project has a designated QA/QC Project Supervisor assigned to it; usually this is the Superintendent, a Project Engineer, or the Assistant Superintendent depending on the size of the project. CSI’s QA/QC Manager assists with implementing and documenting our overall QA/QC Program including conducting our QA/QC Self-Assessment Audits throughout each project, as well as at our postmortem meeting at the completion of each project. During the postmortem meeting we also review “Lessons Learned” and any areas we feel we can get better on the next project. These “Lessons Learned” are continually reviewed and discussed on other projects and are formally reviewed in our yearly Superintendent/PM meeting, where we also conduct quality training for all Field Personnel and Project Managers.

Environmental Controls
Every CSI project incorporates the requirements of the EPA’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (“NPDES”). Each CSI project is started with certified Storm Water Professionals, all of whom have at least five (5) years of experience in environmental compliance oversight. CSI personnel implement and maintain the pollutant control measures described in the SWPPP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan). CSI is proud to be a builder partner with EPA’s ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program. ENERGY STAR certified new homes meet EPA requirements for energy efficiency, delivering better quality, comfort, & durability.

Legal Workforce
CSI is one of nine charter members—and was the first major general contractor—of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s new, voluntary ICE Mutual Agreement program, “IMAGE”. This innovative program allows CSI to partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help uncover vulnerabilities to illegal activity related to immigration status. Technical tools are employed to verify social security numbers for W-2 purposes and are integrated with best practices to lead to a high level of assurance that CSI employees are legally eligible for employment.
